Cascina Varini
history...
The country and mountain houses of our area were called “cascine” or farmhouses.
Cascina Varini takes its name from the village of Varini, located close to the town of Zuino. In the last century, there were also small lakes used for breeding river trout and char fish, which have now disappeared due to a flood.
The Count Bettoni
Family...
The estate is still owned by the Bettoni Cazzago family, who lived in the eighteenth-century Bogliaco building that can be seen from the farmhouse on the edge of the lake.
Here in Zuino, they raised cattle and poultry and cultivated olive trees for oil production. The harvest was processed in the oil mill on property adjacent to the building. It is still functioning today.
In the last century, dozens of people, entire families of peasants, from children to the elderly, dedicated themselves to the olive harvest from October to February. Production was very high and all the olive trees were well cared for and fruitful.
